We have just finished projects on Diabetes and Diets.  We are about to embark on a unit in pastry making.  We will continue to work on balanced meal preparation.  Soon we will be starting gingerbread houses and China!

We have finished our unit on biscuits.  We are now beginning a unit on easy entrees.  We have made Fried Rice and will be making soups, macaroni and cheese and other easy but healthy meals.

We continue to work on learning safety and equipment before beginning cooking.  Unit maps, finishing small tools and equipment and a safety test remain before we can cook.  All students will need a full apron to wear when cooking

We are working on Chapters 4 and 5 about Transportation currently.  We are also working on a cruise ship assignment.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

We continue to work on our aprons in class.  Three students have already finished their aprons with serveral more almost done.  The goal is to have all aprons finished by the end of the month.  Students may work on their aprons before and after school or at lunch with Ms. McIntosh’s permission.  It is acceptable for students to work on their aprons at home if they bring a note from an adult.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

This week in Grade 8 Foods we will be cooking Apple Cheddar Muffins on Wednesday.  In our other classes we will be learning about quick breads and the muffin method.  Please remember to bring an apron and a tea towel if you have not already done so.

This week in Sr. Foods we are cooking Dutch Apple Cake on Tuesday and Slivered Apple Chicken Breast with Brussels Sprouts and Rice on Thursday.  We continue to work on our “Diets: Dangerous or Divine” project on the other days.  Projected due date for this project is Oct. 17.

Interim reports have been submitted to the office for all students.  Parents should be receiving them in the mail shortly.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  Students should see me for make up work if they wish to improve an “I” grade.  This make up work must be completed by  the end of October in order to receive credit for it.  For grade 8′s and 9′s this report shows progress for the first 1/8 of the year.  For Senior students this report shows progress for the first 1/4 of the year – we are at the same stage now in our semester system as we would be at the end of Term 1 in a linear program.
